Questions and answers

Where can I interactively preview and download reusable AE AI effects?

The ArbiFX Gallery lists public community effects searchable by titles, summaries and tags. Open a work and sign in for interactive previews and supported parameter adjustments, then download its .afx file for AE. Signed-out views generally show the cover. Download access follows the account's current entitlement.

Why must I copy OBJ, SVG and texture files when sharing an AI effect or changing computers?

ArbiFX's external OBJ and SVG assets are not packed into the AE project or .afx file. Keep the models, vectors and associated materials and textures, and select them in the destination computer's asset slots. For asset errors, check moved, renamed, deleted or missing referenced files.

How do I keep modifying an existing AE AI effect after generation?

Adjust existing controls directly in AE. To change effect content, continue in that effect's ArbiFX Start window with a specific revision, such as more particles or a warmer color. You can also load an .afx and request changes. Distinguish parameter adjustments from a new content-generation request.

Adjust, save and load

Fine-tune effects in Effect Controls, and save or reuse them as .afx files.

Adjust in Effect Controls

After generation, the items you listed in Control parameters appear under the AFX effect. Like any AE parameter, you can drag them to adjust, set keyframes or link expressions to animate them.

Depending on the effect, Effect Controls may also show these fixed parameters:

ParameterDescription
Use Comp Time / Current TimeFor effects that change over time. With Use Comp Time checked, the effect plays along with the composition time. Uncheck it to set the moment manually with Current Time; keyframe it to freeze, retime or reverse the effect.
Use Comp CameraAppears when the effect supports the comp camera, and turns camera following on or off.
Use Comp Lights / Comp Light InfluenceAppear when the effect supports comp lights. With Use Comp Lights on, Comp Light Influence (0%–400%, default 100%) sets how strongly the lights affect the effect.
AE Camera DOF BlurAppears when the effect supports comp camera depth of field, and sets the depth-of-field blur strength (0%–400%). At 0% the image stays sharp.

Save an .afx file

Click Save in the Start window to save the current effect as an .afx file. The current parameter values in Effect Controls become the file's defaults, so you can reuse the look you've dialed in.

Load an .afx file

  1. Add an AFX effect to a layer and click Start to open the Start window.
  2. Click Load and choose an .afx file (for example, one downloaded from the Gallery).
  3. The effect is applied to the layer right away. Keep adjusting its parameters, or send a new description to refine it.
